Souvenirs

Basketry products from Ban Huay Kreab VillageBan Huay Kreab Village is a home for basketry products. The unique feature of their basketry is the use of locally grown black reeds ((Calamus oxleyanus Teijsm. et. Binn.) to make a large variety of products, such as handbags, traditional baskets, and Thai-style dinner trays or Khan Toke, etc.

Seafood souvenirs from Ban Krood

The best souvenirs from Ban Krood are its seafood products, which are absolutely fresh and chemical-free, e.g. crabs, squids, all kinds of fish such as short-bodied mackerel, Spanish mackerel, etc. The fish and other harvests from the sea are variedly available according to the seasons and lunar days. (Fishermen do not usually go fishing on waxing moon nights for they cannot locate fish well in the moonlight. On the contrary, crabs can hardly be found on waning moon nights.)  Apart from the fresh seafood, you can also buy a variety of processed seafood, such as shrimp paste, dried squids, flavored squids, salted fish, fish that are sun-dried for one day, and others. The common fish sold are salted threadfin, Spanish mackerel, slender queen fish, etc.

The seafood products can be bought everyday at Ban Krood Market near the railway station from 6.00 a.m. until 8 a.m., and at the market in front of Wat Thong Chai Dhammajak Temple from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Fresh and dried fruits, such as pineapples, and coconut-based products, especially virgin coconut oil, are also popular souvenirs for foreign visitors.
